End of the year is here and I am sitting where you are going to be next year, which led to some thoughts to share in a Discussion.
I'm also rereading a book you all could pick up and get something out of and not be bored stiff with. It's called The Magic of Thinking Big by David J Schwartz. Here's a hint before you read it ...ask yourself a question about why you're reading it. One of my daughters is reading it right now and her question is, "How can the information in this book help me to succeed with my schooling next year?" I can't wait to see what her answers end up being. This is the next book that I'm reading to write a lesson for the website. This morning I was blown away by a few thoughts on just two pages and I asked myself, "Why wait?" Therefore, you get a few nuggets as I read along to think about and ponder. This section especially made me want to tell you all now. The author is talking about how learning to relate better to people is the key to anything. It would have helped me with my shyness and it will help my daughter with her boldness (once she learns it). But it was these sentences that made me stop and say, "let them know". Quote - "Purdue University kept careful records of its engineering graduates over a period of slightly more than five years. The earnings of those who made the very highest marks in school - those who appeared to have really mastered all the technical details and to have had the brains to master their profession, were compared with the earnings of those who made the lowest marks. There was barely $200 per year difference. But when the earnings of those graduates who had demonstrated a marked ability to deal with others in social situations were compared, it was found that they averaged about 15 percent more than of those in the "smart" group, and about 33 percent more than of those with low personality ratings." Now I don't know how they rate personalities but I do know that engineers tend to have very strong personalities and need to learn how to care more about others feelings. So the fact that those who did learn how to deal with people better made 15% more than those who just knew the work better is amazing. To tie this in with the website ...if you could learn the information here (maybe actually get the books and read them for yourself for an additional push) and apply it in life, you could out rank all the people who just know the facts better. I'm thinking of you Choleric types right now and how you are getting excited about learning this advantage to make you the most successful person you can be. A little farther down the page there was another sentence that I just had to tell you about.
Quote "when you boil personality down to its basic ingredients, it is nothing more than the ability to interest and serve other people." The average person wants to know how you can entertain them or what you can do for them and if you fit neither of the categories, what's the point of spending their time on you. It's harsh but I've run into quite a few people like this in my day. Learning how to understand people and interact with them better will allow them to see you as worthy and an investment into their life. Which is another good reason to learn the information on this website and put it into action in your life. There's a new page on the site for you to check out. Define Learn Do. How to achieve everything you would ever want in life. It all starts with defining your dream. Attack the details. Go check it out. Also, I received a question on how to answer the lessons. At the top of each page with the title is a link to the Lesson site.
On the Lesson site, at the top of each page with the title there's a button to my email address to make it a little easier to send in your answers. Look forward to hearing from more of you soon. I was discussing this website with a fellow teacher the other day and she got super excited about the information that you get to learn about here. Then she started taking about all the different ways that you could reply to the questions. How you could get together with a couple of friends and role play it out and record it and send it in. How you could use so many of the different apps that are available on your ipads to explain yourself in your learning style and personality.
If for some reason you are not able to send your choice of response through the website, here's my school email address for you to send it to: [email protected] I would LOVE to see all of your creativity! Go explore and enjoy. I wanted to share this picture with you. All of these adults spent 5 hours Friday night, came back for 13 more on Saturday, and another 4 hours on Sunday to learn about the information that I'm putting on this website for you. Think about the headstart in life you can get if you just learn everything on this website. Some of these people drove 44 hours to learn this information. It's amazing fun. So make sure to take a look at the thoughts to ponder. May even place a Convention page on if I collect too many single thoughts. Enjoy all the new updates.
Here is where I will let you know about the cool new updates that have arrived to the website. Keep coming back and enjoy.
The first new addition is a discussion page. It's designed like a blog. So there will be new entries as thoughts about leadership skills cross my mind and I'll ask you questions on how you would handle the situation or how you think someone else should behave in that situation. My thoughts behind this page is to start a type of discussion going on between the people interacting on this page. Mastermind groups are one of the best things for a leader to take advantage of. People who make you think outside of the thinking that you are already programmed with. Enjoy the new additions and I'll see you next time. |
